Angra dos Reis registers second death due to yellow fever and vaccination continues at carnival

Two more people died of yellow fever in southern Rio de Janeiro. The deaths were recorded in Angra dos Reis and Paulo de Frontin, according to the latest bulletin released by the State Department of Health.

This is the second death because of the recorded illness in Angra. A 38-year-old resident died at dawn last Saturday at the Japuíba General Hospital. In less than a week, two people died of the disease.

The Health Department of Angra reported that it continues with the vaccination against yellow fever during the carnival. The agenda foresees the application of doses at health clinics this Saturday (10), in five locations (see list below). On the other days of the holiday, the vaccination will be flown.

Throughout the state of Rio, the number of deaths due to yellow fever reaches 25. According to the latest epidemiological bulletin released by the State Department of Health, there are already 55 confirmed cases of the disease. Valença, also in the interior of Rio, follows as the city with the largest number of people infected: there are 16 cases and six confirmed deaths so far. Teresópolis and Nova Friburgo, both in the Serrana Region, are two other municipalities with more cases accounted for: seven in the first place and six in the second, with four and three deaths, respectively.

In all, there are 17 counties in the state with a registered disease. They are: Teresópolis (7 cases, 4 deaths), Valença (16 cases, 6 deaths), Nova Friburgo (6 cases, 3 deaths), Petrópolis (1 case), Miguel Pereira (1 case, (2 cases), Vassouras (1 case), Sumidouro (5 cases, 2 deaths), Cantagalo (3 cases, 2 deaths), Paraíba do Sul (2 cases), Rio das Flores (2 cases) 1 case, 1 death), Carmo (2 cases, 1 death), Maricá (1 case), Angra dos Reis (4 cases, 2 deaths), Engineer Paulo de Frontin (1 case, 1 death), Paty of the Alferes (1 case) and Mangaratiba (1 case).
